Well, it has certainly been a long day here in Belgium. We actually now know that this country has more to offer than waffles and Jean-Claude Van Damme (or at least I do now). For one, there’s that interesting statue of a boy urinating… Manneken Pis, if I recall correctly.
The teens are having lots of fun, but do not take my word for it- here are a couple of testimonials from actual St. Cletus teens.
Catie Kneemiller: “Uhh… so, yeah, we have been having a good time. Well, except for the lack of sleep and slight delays because of this, that, and everything else.”
Suzanne Deken: “Well, I’m not about to let Cory misquote me, so we shall just go for a mediocre blog. This trip is…how would they put it here? Tres Bien! We have been walking around more than usual, yes, but I’ve heard a rumor that walking won’t kill you, so I guess we’re ok. (or as Cory says, Mkay?) We have seen more stairs in the past day than we have seen in about….well, our whole lives. And yes, we did climb them all. (aren’t you so proud?) Well, tomorrow we leave for Cologne, and we will be starting our part in the big World Youth Day event. No worries to the folks at home; we’ll tell Pope Benidict XVI you said “Hey” or “What’s Up, Papa Benz?” (Love you Mama Beth!) Well, I guess we will talk more when we are safely home from our adventures here in foreign lands…who knows? We might have actually learned something! Love you mom!”
Well, it’s bedtime for the teens, so we’ll bid them adieu and goodnight! They’re tired, so there’s no complaints there. We spent the day here in Brussels, taking in the sights and sounds of the beauty that this historic European city has to offer. We had waffles, had Mass on a cobble-stoned “park” (well, parking lot actually), and tasted
chocolat.
Yesterday was also an adventure, as we had spent much a considerable amount of time walking- around the Louvre, to the Arch de Triomphe and around the Eiffel Tower. Paris is undoubtedly a very beautiful city. Let me assure you: we took a lot of pictures- I nearly filled up a 1 gigabyte compactflash card, if that means anything.
Sadly, we’re all worn out for the day. I cannot even find the energy nor time to crop/resize, upload, and post any of the pictures we took. It’s nearly midnight, and we need to be up in less than seven hours.
As Suzanne mentioned above, we’ll be heading to a concentration camp tomorrow, and then we’ll be heading to Köln. Hopefully, we’ll find internet access there. Eventually, we’ll find some time to post pictures. Check back often!
