I was driving last night to Buffalo Wild Wings to play some QB1 with a friend of mine. On the way there, I was listening to some music of course, skipping stations every 3 seconds trying to find something that caught my ear.
As I was about to give up my search for decent music and just try to get through the Celine Dion song that was playing long enough to make it there (as I was very close to BWW!), I came across this infectious beat on one of the hip hop/r&b stations and I was hooked. Whatever the song was, whatever it was about, I was done station scanning. The song could have been about sex, or getting high, or talking about someone’s lumps…the beat had me hooked!
As I danced the dance that you do when you’re confident no one is looking while you’re driving through an open parking lot, I heard something you don’t hardly ever hear on secular radio: “Jesus.” Wait a minute…I am on the hip hop station right? Secular radio right? Check. What’s going on here? Could this be a Christian song on the radio?
It was! The song is called “Looking for You” by Kirk Franklin, and it is AMAZING. Go out and buy it or download it or whatever you do to it now! It rocks!
And it reminded me…
Our Protestant Christian brothers and sisters have something that us Catholics don’t have very much of: this awesomely charismatic Gospel music! I LOVE it! The way Gospel choirs just get completely into their music, dancing, singing, praising, wearing their robes- it’s beautiful!
I highly recommend you check out this song, and as much Gospel music as you can get your hands on. I’m surfing the net right now, seeing if there are any Christmas concerts left. The music, the faith, is infectious.
