Thinking about……….?

A view of Scottrade Center from my seat in Section 308

So in the past couple of months I have been thinking a lot. Shocker I know. But my thoughts have been all over the place about random things. But one thing I’ve noticed is that when I am in Seat 15, Row L, Section 308, All my thoughts seem to come together.

For those of you who don’t know I am a season ticket holder for the St. Louis Blues and that is “my seat.” It also seems to be the place where I clear my head of all my thoughts. No matter what is on my mind, no matter how long I have been thinking about something, when my butt hits that seat, I just find answers to things. I come up with a lot of solutions to problems that I am having or I just can sit back and be at peace when I’m there.  It’s so cool to have a spot where I can just sit and find answers to anything that is troubling me at that time. So last game I was trying to figure out what I was going to blog about and this came to mind. AMAZING

But here’s the thing. I thought about well is it the seat that I am at, or is it that when I am at Blues games I feel at peace with the world? It’s a weird thing to think about, I guess, but I have come to the conclusion that it’s the fact that I am watching something that I just love. I think that there is more than just this one “spot” that I can think at but right now it’s there.

So now I am curious about where you all feel you think the best at? Is it when you’re in bed right before you sleep? Maybe it’s when your driving or just listening to music. Let me know, I’m interested.

What’s your story?

When the Saints by Sara Groves

“I think of Paul and Silas in the prison yard
I hear their song of freedom rising to the stars
And when the Saints go marching in
I want to be one of them”

My bible study leader showed us the above attached video at bible study this week and the line above is from the song in the video. Brittany, my bible study leader, was talking about how in the song it talks about when we get to heaven we will be sitting around hearing all these saint’s stories. We’ll listen to St. Peter, and hear about the start of the Church. Mother Teresa and John Paul II will be sitting around telling their stories of all they did.  And then they’ll all turn to you and ask to hear your story. What will you be able to say that you’ve done? This isn’t to say that you aren’t doing with your life, that’s not my point at all. But are living in such a way that you won’t be able to wait to tell your story? Are you living in a way that you are well on your way to be a saint (in the sense that we will all be saints when we get to heaven, not necessarily caninized)? What’s your story going to involve?

Working through weakness

Sunday morning, the sun poured through my uncovered windows, woke me up, and held its bright grip on my eyelids until I could no longer resist. I was awake, and there was nothing I could do about it. Checking the clock, I noticed that I had about 20 extra minutes than I am used to on a Sunday morning. Not knowing what else to do, I flipped on the television. I have no cable, nor satellite, nor DVR, so what I settled on was pretty much the only thing available- Joel Osteen.

Osteen, in case you’re unfamiliar, is the pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, as well as the author of a New York Times bestseller or two. According to Wikipedia, his ministry reaches over 2 million television viewers weekly. I was one of those this Sunday.

Osteen was talking about how God uses our weaknesses, our faults, our supposed flaws, to glorify His Kingdom. He told the story of Zacchaeus, who, because of his short stature, was forced to improvise and find a way to see Jesus as He walked into town. As you know, Zacchaeus found a tree, which is where Jesus found him, calling, “Zacchaeus, come down from that tree. I want to eat with you.”

Plenty of people could have climbed that tree. In fact, taller people could have climbed that tree easier than Zacchaeus did. But God chose to use Zacchaeus’ weakness as a means to reach him as well as others. Osteen’s message: we need not find fear or disappointment in the things we are not, for it is through those things that God will lift us up.

Perhaps you’re not as tall as you’d like to be. Maybe you don’t speak in public as well as you’d like, or aren’t as outgoing as you wish you were. We all have things about ourselves that we wish were different, but as Zacchaeus found, it is very likely these things that God will use to work through us.
